NEW MH Grant for NYS Schools

Exciting new grant opportunity for schools in NYS. NYS Office of Mental Health, in conjunction with the NYS Department of Education, announces the opportunity for Student Mental Health Support Grants to School Districts RFP (released in March of 2022 and due May 25, 2022). See description and link below.

These grants are intended to improve student access to mental health resources and assist students who have experienced trauma that negatively affects their educational experience. This program will be administered by the Office of Mental Health and developed in consultation with the State Education Department.

The first objective listed in the RFP is to “Enhance Access to Mental Health Services” and an approved option is to “Apply a standardized tool to identify children who may be at risk for a mental health concern. This can be accomplished with a systematic tool or process such as a standardized screening tool which may include; student-report, parent-report, and/or teacher-report, and the examination of relevant data.” This language is consistent with use of the BIMAS2 and this RFP may be a valuable funding avenue for some districts to initiate or expand on their current screening efforts.
